Espèce invasive : des fourmis d’Éthiopie vont-elles conquérir le monde ? [Futura-Sciences]

Les fourmis Lepisiota canescens font partie désormais du club très fermé des fourmis formant des supercolonies. C’est ce qu’ont découvert des scientifiques qui étudient les petites forêts résiduelles qui entourent des églises orthodoxes en Éthiopie. Selon eux, elles ont les qualités d’une espèce invasive prête à conquérir le monde.

A ‘sapphire rush’ has sent at least 45,000 miners into Madagascar’s protected rainforests [The Conversation]

The rainforests of Didy in eastern Madagascar usually ring with the calls of the indri, the island’s largest lemur. There is a different noise now : the chopping of trees, digging of gravel, and cheers of encouragement from the thousands of illegal miners who have flooded to these forests since sapphires were discovered in late September.
