DNA tape recorder stores a cell’s memories [Science]

Researchers have figured out how to turn strands of DNA into readable, writable memory inside living cells—one that’s designed to record bits of the cell’s life over the span of several weeks. The applications of this system have tremendous potential, and could even turn cells into living environmental sensors.
